Birmingham br c 1827 (Filho da Puta - Miss Craigie, by Orville). Sire Line Highflyer. Family 34.

Bred by Mr Lacey, Birmingham was a full brother to Hedgeford* (br c 1826) who had some success at stud in America. He was later purchased by William Beardsworth of Birmingham. A big, sturdy colt standing 16 hands 2 inches he was said to have been so fond of Mrs Beardsworth that he would follow her into the dining room. He was sold to Mr Scarisbrick prior to his appearance on the turf in 1833.

He won nearly twenty races from 1829 to 1833, including the St Leger Stakes at Doncaster. Over a course left heavy by a storm that ceased only moments prior to the start he defeated the popular and favoured Priam (b c 1827 Emilius), with Emancipation (b c 1827 Whisker) finishing third. There was some feeling that had the going been firmer the more lightly constructed Priam with his small hooves would have made a better showing. Among Birmingham's other victories were the Grosvenor Stakes, the Stand Cup (twice each) and the Fitzwilliam Stakes.

Sent to Russia he had limited success there as a stallion. He got the dam of the stallion Molodoj Bard (b c 1854 The Bard), the second dam of the good winner Vadim (b c 1867 Van Dyck) and the fourth dam of the winner Termidor (ch c 1891 Kordecki).
