Spring Cottage at Malton is today (above) a care facility for the elderly but was once home to William I'Anson who lived there until 1867. I'Anson trained such turf luminaries as Blink Bonny (b f 1854 Melbourne) and Blair Athol (ch c 1861 Stockwell). Spring Cottage was later occupied by Tom Chaloner, the famous jockey whose many victories included that of Macaroni (b c 1860 Sweetmeat) in the Derby and Caller Ou (br f 1858 Stockwell) in the St Leger, and Charles Lund, the latter the trainer of the Doncaster Cup winner Queen's Birthday (b c 1887 Hagioscope). The stables as they appeared around 1895 are shown at the bottom.
