the famous Penelope (b f
1798 Trumpator)
taproot mare of Family 1-o,
half-sister to the Oaks winner Pelisse (br f 1801
Whiskey) and half-sister to
the Derby winner Waxy Pope (b c 1806
Waxy). Parasol ran for six years
winning the Jockey Club Plate, four King's Plates and placing
third in the Oaks Stakes. In 1806 she beat the Derby winner
Cardinal Beaufort (b c 1802 Gohanna) in a 200gs match at Newmarket. In the stud
she produced the One and Two Thousand Guineas Stakes winner
Pastille (b f 1819 Rubens) and
the Two Thousand Guineas Stakes winner Pindarrie (b c 1817 Phantom)
along with the stallion Partisan (b c 1811
Walton). Among her
descendants are the Cesarewitch winner Weathergage (b c 1849
Weatherbit) and the July Cup winner Trappist (b c 1872
Hermit).
Her descendant Empress (ch f 1872 Citadel) founded a very
successful family in South America that includes the famous
Embrujo (ch c 1936 Congreve). Parasol was humanely destroyed in
1826.
