Arabian was probably a pure bay (which current color theory defines as
being homozygous for black). Of over one hundred offspring attributed to
the Godolphin Arabian, three are said to be chestnuts. The color of two
of these three may be due to errors made in identifying either the sire
or the color, while the color of the third was probably incorrectly

Mr. Grizewood in May of 1756. SHIREBORN was sold to Mr. Jefferson in
August of 1754. She was one of four sisters to Sherborne, only two of
which appear in the General Stud Book. WHITEFOOT MARE was bred by Sir
John Dutton. LEEDES MARE was half-sister to Crofts' Bay Barb and died in
1736.

Family 39. AMELIA, described as a bay filly with a star, was first
called Duchess. Bred by Mr. Crofts, she was foaled May 6, 1748. She won
2 races in 1752, including 100 gs winning against 5 year old mares; and
3 races in 1753. Amelia was owned by Captain Vernon in 1753 and by Mr.
Burlton in 1754. Amelia became the dam of Lord Waldegrave's
Disappointment (b.c. 1759 by Blank) and the Duke of Ancaster's Trophy
(ch.c. 1760 by Spectator). KEETON, was bred by Mr. Bright and later
acquired by Mr. Panton, along with Amelia, in exchange for a Fox mare
[Daphne's dam] and foal. YOUNG TRUE BLUE MARE [c1733] was owned by Lord
Manners. CYPRUS ARABIAN MARE was bred by the Duke of Rutland, who also
owned her dam, Bonny Black.

1745). Born April 10, 1745, she was described as a bay filly with a
star, a near hind white foot, and a little white on the off fore.
Acquired by Mr. Panton on April 17, 1748, she became the dam of Starling
(ch.c. 1752 by Bolton Starling) who was sent to America; the 2nd dam of
Sloven (b.c. 1761 by Cub); and the 4th dam of Hutchinson's Weazle (b.c.
1776).

Anna (b.f. 1754) by

few white hairs on her forehead and a little white on the inside of her
near hind foot, with a white off hind foot. Cloudy was covered by the
Godolphin Arabian on April 9 and 17, then by Mr. Panton's two year old
colt Slamerkin on May 8. Thus Anna was probably sired by Slamerkin.
CLOUDY, with Anna at her side was sold to Lord Townshend in July of
1754.

on the Hill, in Gloucestershire, in 1759.

Curwen's Arabian Mare. Born April 27, 1733, he was described as a dun
colt with a star and a blaze, and was sold to John South in 1739. ALCOCK
ARABIAN MARE was in Edward Coke's broodmare band, and was described in a
certificate as "Got by the Grey Arabian that got Crab, out of a
daughter of the old Bay Barb [Curwen's], which mare was out of an
Arabian mare that Mr. Curwen had out of France, that was dam by Mr.
Minchell's [Minshull's] chestnut Post Boy. [Signed] Ch. Pelham." An
unbeaten winner of a 1000 guineas sweepstakes and five King's Plates, he
stood at Doncaster, in Yorkshire, in 1759.

Mare. Family 21. Squball was foaled at Sir John Dutton's and moved to
Lord Godolphin's stud in 1743. In 1747 he won at Huntingdon, and John
Heatherett sold him to Mr. Blake at St. Edmonds Bury. He was later sent
to Ireland, where he won many plates and prizes racing for Arthur
Marvin. BANDY was bred by Sir John Dutton and was sister to Bajazet's
dam.

however, it is possible that she was sent to America, where she was

to Mr. Harvey of Chigwell in May of 1751. She later became the dam of
Scaramouch (bl.c. 1768 by Snap) and the 5th dam of Miss Grimstone (b.f.
1796 by Hutchinson's Weazle).

Godolphin Arabian - Whirligig, dam of Spotless. Bred by Lord Middleton,
he was owned by Mr. Greville and stood at Snape-Hall, in Yorkshire, in
1759.

sister, although it was her dam HIP MARE who was half-sister to Bashaw
(Bashaw was also called Old Standard).
