Miss Bell* |
Miss Bell was imported into Virginia in 1753 by John Hunter,
Elizabeth City County, Virginia, and later sent to North Carolina. A
certificate given by Herbert Haynes of Northampton County, North
Carolina, stated that the 3rd dam of his mare Nancy Bell, was the
"imported mare Miss Bell, foaled in 1750, got by Starling and
imported by Col Hunter into Hampton, Virginia, in 1753 or 1754"
[E1:109]. She could possibly connect to Family 19. |

Jones's Partner Mare |
Described as "one of the handsomest Mr Macon ever saw,"
Fairfax Harrison discovered that she was the dam of Haynes's Old Poll,
the latter the dam of Thomas Friend Wilson's St George Mare, who had
previously been credited to the family of Mary Grey*, (Family 2). A
daughter of the St George Mare, the significant matriarch Wilson's
Diomed Mare, founded an excellent racing family of which the Leading
Sire Himyar was a notable member [E2:138]. |
