 Findings to date from mtDNA typing of Family 4 are somewhat confounding. Matrilineal descendants of Sister to Guy (1722 by Greyhound, out of Brown Farewell by Makeless) conserve type I2a1 which is also found in Families 11 and 13. Two other mtDNA types have been found in matrilineal descendants of Otheothea (1772) who traces to Brown Farewell's recorded half-sister Bay Layton (c1701). At present, the only conclusion that may be stated with full confidence is that tail female descendants of Sister to Guy (1722), Seakale (1835), and Kate Dayrell (1863) are matrilineally unrelated.

Layton Violet Barb Mare

The pedigree for Whistlejacket says he "was got by Mogul; his dam by Sweepstakes; a daughter of the Hampton Court Chesnut Arabian, Makeless, Brimmer, Mr Place's White Turk, Dodsworth, out of Mr Layton's Violet Barb Mare, which was a broodmare in Lord Darcy's Stud" [Pick 1:154].

Note that Dodsworth was mated to a mare in Lord Darcy's Stud "Mr Burton's Violet Barb Mare in Lord Darcy's Stud" whose daughter by Dicky Pierson, son of Dodsworth, was third dam of Desdemona [Pick 1:242]. This places Dodsworth at Sedbury and the Burton Barb Mare at Sedbury. This could suggest that the taproot mares of Family 2 and Family 4 are the same mare.
 
Bay Bloody Buttocks

Her pedigree is corrected in the General Stud Book to "her dam by Greyhound, out of Brown Farewell, by Makeless" [GSB:Additional Errata and Addenda].
