Duchess "Duchess, a grey Arabian Mare, brought to England by Sir Cockerell, and presented by him to HRH the Duke of York [GSB 2/4:55]. "Young Whiskey Mare, Bred by His Royal Highness the Duke of York, in 1808, out of Duchess, Sir Charles Cockerell's Arabian mare" [GSB3/2:461]. Duchess probably belonged to Sir Charles Cockerell (1755-1837), 1st bt of Sezincote, Gloucestershire, who returned to England in 1801 after extensive service in India. He was made baronet in 1809. |
